Voltz Clarke Gallery is pleased to present Remnants, a solo exhibition by Natasha Law.
Natasha Law’s gloss on aluminum paintings in Remnants explore themes around the objects left behind and memory evoking pieces, frequently lingering as questions. Law recalls her mother’s collected textiles from previous generations. The British artist recognizes her own childhood party dresses and other sentimental fabrics, her mother’s chosen medium for quilt making.
Law observes the cyclical nature of clothing as her own children mature and move out, leaving boxes in their wake. Memory soaked textiles, she cannot bear to part from are soon almost forgotten. This ever shifting transitional period is repeated in other mediums as family photographs transform from black and white to deep, cold blues and warm yellows, demonstrating gradual aging.
Stemming from this shift, Remnants considers discarded physical objects as testament to growth and progress, as well as a witness to the pleasure they once produced.
The compositions trace the lingering character and individuality present in family clothing and photographs. Figures are pulled out of context and the eye is drawn to fragments of color. The human form recedes and disappears in slight abstraction with color and shape molding the figure. In Blue Cube on Pink, 2026, a royal blue form pops and anchors the figure wearing the vibrant shorts. Similarly, a small yellow contour draws the eye in Yellow Disc on Pink, 2026 as it highlights the negative space between the figure’s head, neck, and outstretched arm. The vivid elements ground the abstracted figures in their poses and movement.
Natasha Law is from the United Kingdom and graduated from Camberwell College of Arts. She continues to live and work in London and has been represented by Voltz Clarke Gallery for over two decades.
