Voltz Clarke Gallery is pleased to present From Center, a solo exhibition by Katy Ferrarone.
From Center explores the shifting emotional landscape of grief, love, change, and the quiet work of returning to one's deep self and center. Katy Ferrarone’s most recent body of work emerged during a period of transition: the loss of a parent, the experience of being a mother, watching her children grow into adults, and a heightened awareness of middle age. These moments carry a tectonic quality: foundations shift, roles change, and time becomes more visible. Grief and gratitude co-exist, as does the ache of letting go and the privilege of having loved deeply. The New York-based artist leans into her painting practice to explore and create through these emotions.
The organic forms in the series gather around concentrations of repeated marks that represent points of emotional intensity, culminating in a crescendo where feeling reaches its peak before dispersing. The abstract painter’s repetition is meditative, almost devotional. The scale of the paintings reflects the magnitude of her grief, while the restrained palette quietly offers the antithesis. Ferrarone investigates the tension between enormity and stillness while being overtaken by feelings in addition to observing them. At its core, From Center is about impermanence, love, loss, becoming, releasing, and holding close. It considers what remains when familiar structures shift and the possibility of finding, again and again, a place of steadiness within ourselves.
Katy Ferrarone received her BFA in Painting from Syracuse University in 1998 and an AAS in Fashion Design from Parsons in 2004. She has exhibited in Singapore, New York, Colorado, and Connecticut and has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Venue Magazine, House Beautiful, Elle Decor, The Fairfieldista, and The Fairfield Citizen.
