Press Release
Voltz Clarke Gallery is pleased to present Seeing Gardens, a solo exhibition, by Landon Nordeman.
Inspired by his grandmother’s love of gardening, and his father’s penchant for placing a fresh cut flower in the lapel of his jacket, flowers have always caught New York based photographer, Landon Nordeman’s eye—no matter the situation. In Seeing Gardens, the curated selection of twelve photographs display the flora and fauna found in everyday moments, from verdant banana leaf wallpaper matching a passing tropical green dress to
vivid florals peeking through at an evening cocktail gathering. The works display the photographer’s attention to detail and serendipity of ephemeral scenes. Nordeman describes that “when I encounter flowers out in the world—especially by surprise— my deep personal memories of home and family alight, and I am compelled to press the shutter. This show is about my appreciation for those passing moments—of witnessing gardens hidden amidst the course of my photographic life.”
Both artist and journalist, Landon Nordeman’s candid photos expose the extraordinary in everyday life. His mastery of light and composition combined with an eye to documenting unexpected moments make his work visually and intellectually fascinating. Nordeman graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies and continued on to Ohio University to study in the School of Visual Communication. Nordeman’s photographs have been exhibited at Voltz Clarke Gallery, Leica Gallery, and Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York and The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, and are in the collections of The Museum of Fine Arts Houston and The Columbus Museum of Art. His monograph, Out of Fashion, published by Damiani, was named one of Time’s Best Photobooks of 2016.
