Voltz Clarke Gallery is pleased to present Up Close by Natasha Law. The exhibition will be on view from November 19th through December 19th, 2020.

British artist Natasha Law is recognized for her high-gloss paintings on paper in her distinctive silhouette style. Law captures intimate moments of females during various stages of undress. The painter’s decision to keep the images visually bold, yet simplified down to abstracted cut-out shapes, suggests the underlying strength of the everyday woman. Her use of color, tone, and contrast creates a contemporary feel to her paintings and drawings that have become her signature.

“The British artist Natasha Law paints women seen in their most private and intimate moments. But as a female artist, her gaze understands how women move, what they feel and the gestures that translate their state of mind. Law’s paintings, whether on paper or metal, are executed with rich layers of enamel paint, solid fields of color enveloping her delicately outlined figures. Her subjects are always women she knows and thus the figures express a sense of causal comfort and ease, entirely unaware of the viewer. These women are sexy but not sexualized, they feel secure in the privacy of this moment, painted from the perspective of the woman herself.” ~ Natasha Schlesinger

Natasha Law is a United Kingdom native who continues to live and work in London. Law has been represented by Voltz Clarke for over a decade starting with her first solo show Stills at Diane Von Furstenberg in New York City. She has exhibited internationally and is in a number of well-known private collections.
