Press Release

Voltz Clarke Gallery is pleased to present A Quiet Place, a solo exhibition by Maru Quiñonero.

A Quiet Place represents the silent yet resolute metamorphosis of Maru Quiñonero’s artistic practice. Although Quiñonero’s craft remains rooted in visual synthesis, in A Quiet Place, certain silhouettes begin to subtly emerge through her canvases, claiming their own space and new identity. Her new pieces do not seek to be faithful representations but rather echoes of something familiar residing in memory; structures that function as emotional anchors and offer a sanctuary where color and line finally meet. The Madrid-based artist explains, “I am then, now, a painter who writes and weaves to bring order to the void, to build a structure of her own, solid, silent, and inhabitable.” Additionally, A Quiet Place incorporates crochet pieces, allowing Quiñonero to intertwine thought and fiber into a physical structure that can be read, touched, and felt.

The artist’s practice is found within the intersection of abstraction and recollection, leading to an elegant emotional cartography. Her paintings explore pure abstraction through the intersection of color and line. Resisting a singular fixed interpretation, Quiñonero’s selection of new work invites viewers into a contemplative space in which painting, word, and thread inevitably coexist.

Maru Quiñonero is a self-taught artist, living and working in Madrid, Spain. Exhibiting extensively since 2003, she attended Murcia University and continued to complete her masters at Carlos III University, Madrid.
