Lisa Schulte & Yiorgos Kordakis: PULSE Miami Beach 2015
Lisa Schulte, Untitled Wood Series #1, 2013 & Yiorgos Kordakis, Global Summer #6, 2013

Voltz Clarke is pleased to exhibit the driftwood and neon works of American sculptor Lisa Schulte and Greek photographer Yiorgos Kordakis at PULSE Miami Beach 2015.

Through the juxtaposition of works, Voltz Clarke reveals a conversation between the organic medium of
Schulte’s driftwood sculptures and the faded quality of Kordakis’, now obsolete, large-format photography.

With Kordakis’ Global Summer photographs, the artist gestures towards ephemerality and transience, and particularly, the underlying similarities revealed in different cultures enjoying the same season.

Similarly, Schulte’s organic forms provoke a greater dialogue regarding our relativity and adaptation to the world around us. Through these conceptually rigorous series, what is provoked is the abstraction of the familiar, as both Schulte and Kordakis provide alternate views and modes to experience the routine and everyday.

Schulte is a Los Angeles based artist whose diverse practice includes sculpture and installation. Her portfolio includes neon sculpture reminiscent of 1960s spirograph drawings as well as her preternatural love for eighties disco. She has been exhibited in many galleries across the United States, including various museum exhibits and has commissioned work for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Kordakis was born in Athens, Greece in 1973. Since 1997 he has been working as a freelance
photographer, concentrating on panoramic scenes that are wrought with great emotion and visual splendor. He has presented his photographs throughout a number of European cities, including London, Athens, Paris, and Frankfurt. He currently lives and works between New York and Athens.
