On View: October 8 – November 16, 2015
Location: Voltz Clarke Gallery, 141 East 62nd Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10065
For the inaugural show at Voltz Clarke’s new gallery, Bradley Sabin will present NatureNurture, a suite of ceramic sculptural installations that bring to focus the drama and impact of the natural world.
Sabin’s portfolio is marked with organic balance achieved through delicate, and seemingly alchemical, craftsmanship. Using specialized, low-fire clays and hand-mixed glazes in a range of vivid colors, each work is taut with emotional allusion and showcase Sabin’s love of gardening. This is further reiterated in his choice of subject as each of his hand-crafted forms present recurring motifs of flowers, leaves, and branches. These hand-made installations will be exhibited for the first time in New York City. The artist states, “I equate the care and time needed to have a healthy garden to human relationships that also require nurturing and protecting to flourish.”
Sabin earned his Masters of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University, where he began to practice professionally within the ceramic arts. Unlike other ceramicists, he works within the natural structure of exhibition spaces, tying these architectural environments into his complex and organic installations. Sabin’s well-honed technique and use of symbolic imagery explores themes of fecundity and fragility as well as strength and protection and emulation of the sublime.
Sabin’s work is included in a number of galleries and private collections worldwide.
