Opening on September 19th, the show runs through November 1st, 2019, with an opening reception on Thursday, September 19th from 6-8pm.

An avid gardener and sculptor, Bradley Sabin finds inspiration through the nature around him. Botanica will feature Sabin’s signature ceramic installations with new flower shapes and glazes inspired by the plants Sabin grows in his own garden in New Orleans. Individually hand formed and glazed, each flower is a unique part of a whole grouping. Sabin emphasizes the connection between the care and time needed to maintain a flourishing garden and thriving human relationships, both of which need to be nurtured and protected in order to grow.

Sabin continues to explore the beauty of nature in his Still Life Discs. These compositions seamlessly intertwine themes of beauty and danger: one features snakes and flowers, the other antlers and lilies. In both sculptures, Sabin explores how opposites can be interwoven to create a harmonious arrangement.

Another element of Botanica is Sabin’s white antique gilt framed mirrors. The sculptures are layered with plaster and paint with a frosted plexi center beneath Sabin’s iconic ceramic flowers. In addition to having flowers on the mirror and frame, the blossoms extend onto the wall as an installation-based piece. The two works are an extension of his original piece from his Nature/Nurture exhibition at Voltz Clarke in 2015.

Bradley Sabin received his Master of Fine Arts in ceramics from Louisiana State University in 1996, and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has exhibited nationally and most recently abroad at TEFAF in Holland.
