Christina Burch

The work of Christina Burch has been exhibited internationally and has been represented by Voltz Clarke Gallery, in New York City since 2000. Ultimate reality and the sublime mystery at the heart of experience are the focus of Burch’s artistic investigations. Most of her work is figurative painting and her influences include tantric painting, taoist arts including healing arts, classical Italian art, Japanese aesthetics and contemporary artists such as Marlene Dumas, Alice Neel, Yayoi Kusama, Agnes Martin, Kara Walker, Chris Ofili, Takashi Murakami, Manuel Mendive and Kerry James Marshall. Burch’s impeccably detailed canvases are resplendent with flora and fauna characterized by a pervading sense of mythopoetry and an ebullient use of color. Many of the works featured here are from her Garland of Skulls series which explores the liminal edge of appearance, underlying reality and the nature of mind.
