ARTIST STATEMENT
I am currently creating a body of work around the idea of mindfulness. Through the use of color, mixed media, space and scale, I depict the emotions I am feeling at the time the work is created. These images are essentially maps of what my mind and body are experiencing at the particular moment. My plan is to ask the questions: Can we stay in a mindful state? What happens to the brain when we are mindful or focused on our one particular emotion, without judgment? Each work is a direct expression of my particular state of mind and what emotions it travels through during the art-making process. My hope is to create a basis of conversation with my work. I'd like to open discussions about the ability of the mind to remain present and to ultimately find peace. ~ Katy Ferrarone
